Bring Us Together

Matthew 15:21-28

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: “Even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”  Matthew 15:27 (NASB)

For inexplicable reasons, we had been at arm’s length from a family in our neighborhood for two decades.  We rarely, if ever, spoke, and could have lived on different planets rather than only houses apart.  Both families’ children grew up and moved away, creating an even greater social separation.  But then, one of the neighbor’s children, who had built a highly successful career in another part of the country, returned home for a few weeks of vacation.  While home, he adopted a dog from a local animal shelter and began regularly walking it past our house on his way to the park.  We were immediately enamored with the friendly pup, and re-acquainted ourselves with the owner, as well as his parents, who also were frequently called into dog-walking service.  Soon, we were exchanging greetings, ideas, news, names of service providers, and more. The aged walls of adversity had crumbled through the introduction of an innocent friendly dog and its display of unconditional love.  Jesus frequently used the illustration of dogs in his teaching and parables.  Now I know why!

PRAYER: Lord, we thank you for your guidance, regardless of the messenger.  Help us to achieve the capability of showing the unconditional love your creatures display.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
