Fear of the Storm

Mark 4:35-41

Thought For Today: “And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Hush, be still’.  And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.”  Mark 4:39 (NASB)

One of our dogs is a mixed-breed which includes a parent who was a Chow, a breed known for its tenacity and loyalty in protecting its masters from harm against any and all odds.  She holds the position of “top dog” in the

household, and quickly convinces any fellow pet of her authority.  But let a hint of a storm through rising wind, distant thunder or lightning occur, and her fearlessness is reduced to hiding under the bed, if not in it, where she hopes her otherwise vulnerable masters will protect her.

When we experience the storms of life, how often do we go to the Master of the Storm for shelter?  The Disciples did, and were rescued from their mutual plight.  Shouldn’t we, as Christians, “go and do likewise”?

Prayer: Lord, when we are beset with troubles, fears and trepidation, we know we can come to you for refuge.  Save us from the tempests!  In your blessed name, we pray.  Amen.
