The Image of the Father

John 14:7-11

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: “He who has seen Me has seen the Father…” John 14:9 (NASB)

Many years ago, I returned to the hometown of my parents and generations of our family before them to attend college. Although I had been born in the Iowa county seat community, my parents moved to greener pastures before

I was a month old. Therefore, other than an occasional weekend visit, I was a complete stranger there. But upon my return to reside and attend school there 18 years later, I was frequently stopped on the street and asked if my name was Johnson and if my father was George. I did not realize that, in the image of my father, I looked exactly as he had when he was 18, and the old-timers recognized me as him.

Jesus told his disciples that he was created in the image of God the Father, and that those who saw him saw the father. And as Christians, the light—and image—of our Lord and Savior should be part of our image we display to the world.

PRAYER: Lord, help us to remember that we, as Christians, bear the image of our creator. Let our words and actions reflect that. In Jesus’ name, Amen
