Spiritual Life Ministry

Weekly, in the sanctuary of our church, we are reminded about Jesus‟ teachings through the bread and the cup. As followers of Christ we are invited to partake in that memory with our Communion Table Host.

We are a small congregation and yet we know so little about each other beyond Sunday morning. This year the hope for our spiritual life ministry is to develop more a sense of community. A few weeks ago John Steinmetz shared a story just before communion, about his grandfather‟s clock. It hangs on the wall in his dining room and brings back special memories whenever he looks at it. It was a beautiful story about a family relationship and how the memory of a person lives on with the help of a clock. John invited us into his life and gave new meaning to our weekly communion time.

Would you be willing to share a little bit about yourself? There is no right or wrong way to do so. Perhaps you have a favorite Bible verse. Why is it special to you? Was there an event in your life that helped form or reconfirm your faith? Was there a meal that you will never forget and why? Do you have a recipe that reminds you of someone whenever you fix it? Or did you observe someone else eating in a way that will stay with you forever? Why is communion important to you? We will provide you with the Words of Institution we have used over the years or we encourage you to explain what the cup and bread means in your own words. We also will provide you with a prayer for the Table or we will listen appreciatively to yours. We are family and stories are a way families share the goodness of life and of the Holy.

The sign-up sheet for Communion is in the back of the sanctuary. You are invited to host alone or with a family member or friend. You will bring a new meaning to Communion. We are on this faith journey together. People and events in our lives help to shape who we are and what we believe. We would love to hear your story!
