Mission Opportunities for 9/11 Day of Service

The tragic events and images from 9/11 are still etched in my memory as I'm sure yours too.  It's one of those times when we all remember where we were when we watched or heard it all unfold.  Some of you may even have loved ones who were directly impacted by what happened.

As you may have heard 9/11 is now called a national "Day of Service."  The goal of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance (www.911day.org) is to provide a positive and forward-looking way for Americans and others to forever honor and remember the 9/11 victims, survivors, and the many that rose in service in response to the 9/11 tragedy.  I have organized these mission opportunities and am offering them concurrently with an online social group called Serve Kansas City.

Harvesters Food Sort for 9/11 Day of Service (1 - 3pm) - Harvesters is opening up on Sunday for a special Food Sort with a period of reflection to honor those lost on 9/11.  Some of you have volunteered with me before at Harvesters and can attest that it is a fun service project.  Harvesters is the areas only food bank and serves over 620 agencies.  They were even recently voted the #1 food bank in the country.  The address for Harvesters is 3801 Topping Ave, Kansas City, MO.  Click on the link for more details.

Donate Blood for 9/11 Day of Service (10am – 2pm) - Join me in donating blood in memory of our 9/11 heroes.  This event is being held at the Red Cross blood drive happening at North Point Church which is at 8865 Bourgade St. in Lenexa.  To RSVP you will need to call the Red Cross (1-800-733-2767) to make your reservation.  I plan on donating at 11am.  Click on the link for more details.

Volunteer at Patriots Run for 9/11 Day of Service (all day) - This run draws people from all over the country and is a great tribute to the victims of 9/11 and our service men and women. They typically have corporate volunteer help but with 9/11 falling on a weekend (and a Chiefs game) they are especially in need of more volunteers this year.  If you're a runner then they are still taking registrations too!  All proceeds go to benefit the Salvation Army shelter in Olathe.  This event is being held at the Great Mall of the Great Plains in Olathe.  Click on the link for more details.

You can RSVP to the Harvesters or Patriots Run events by just sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Thanks for considering serving our community with a 9/11 Day of Service tribute.
